As I walked out on the pier this morning to see God’s handiwork in the sky, I stumbled across these bombs from our fine-feathered friends. I don’t know if they had a “let’s see who can make the biggest poop splash on the pier” contest, but it sure looked that way!
I had a life perspective / God perspective moment as I traversed the land mines to the end of the pier on beautiful Mobile Bay. The thought struck me that this pier is much like our life journeys, God callings, business ventures, marketing plans, and really any other path we find ourselves on. We all want to reach the destination, for me the end of the pier, so we can arrive at that goal, that experience, that place of beauty. We don’t want to be distracted by the “crap” of life. We just want to stroll right out and not worry about what we may step in along the way.
It’s the “along the way” part that makes or breaks a life goal, a God calling, or business vision. If you don’t watch the path and adjust to what hurdles, trials, and plain “poop” that liters the way, then you’ll in up in a world of stink. My good friend Jay King, said it perfectly years ago when we were talking about music business paths and life paths, “You either adjust, or get adjusted.”
For me, I adjusted and avoided the white bird-bombs on my flip-flops. I arrived at the destination, and looking back realized how many twists and turns I had to take. My life is full of those now. I’m paying attention to the path, and most importantly to my Father, Creator, God who has the macro-view to guide me through the spots I REALLY don’t need to step in.
Jesus told us we are called to do greater things than He did on this earth. He also told us that there would be trials, temptations, and struggles along the way. I believe He even said, “suffering” would be a part of it. That doesn’t change the destination. That doesn’t change the path. It does require we make constant adjustments, like a person walking the tightrope, so we keep our balance and arrive at that point.
What are your challenges today? What adjustments are you making? Have you stepped in the “poop” of life lately?
Breathe In & Smile Out,
Chris
