We all hear the phrase, “just saying,” way too much. It’s one that is kind of played out like other annoying cliche tags. This one has a little passive/aggressive tone to it though. It comes from the “I want to be aggressively honest with you” place, but tagged with a little “I’m going to say it with a smile and this tag so I have a pass” because I’m really not this honest.
Anyway, as I was reading Psalm 119 this morning this Hebrew letter in the acrostic struck my funny bone. It’s the 7th stanza that uses the “Zayin” letter in the Hebrew. The funny part to me was how that stanza starts with God’s promise that David is hanging on to. He uses this letter to begin each line in the stanza.
In the verses 49 and 50 it reads:
“Remember your promise to me;
it is my only hope. Your promise revives me; it comforts me in all my troubles.”
It’s almost the reverse of what we see in our western world’s cliche. I laughed as I could picture David praying these verses aloud, or even singing them as he pauses to utter…”I’m just “Zayin” God…Your promise…To me…Just Zayin, just zayin…”
I guess I’m weird like that. I think God wants us to call Him out. He wants us to be funny with Him. He wants us to have that kind of relationship where we don’t have to be passive/aggressive …and we can still honestly call Him to His promises.
I have a few promises I’m thinking about this morning. I love that He has many more than I can imagine. And I can find hope and life in every one….i’m just zayin!
